what advice does anyone have on buying a digital slr. I'm looking for a midrange $800 to $1300 camera. any advice for that price range or in general?

the best advice is to go to a camera store and play with different models! then do a side by side comparison on dpreview!

Does your budget include lenses? Think about what you want to use it for and investigate lens costs too. Don't skimp and buy cheap ones - check out lens reviews too.
